General IPF Editor Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I get an "Error 3" from the Spell.DLL when starting the IPF Editor?

This happens when you have just installed the IPF Editor 2.0 and then tried to run it immediately without shutting down your system to let the modifications to the CONFIG.SYS take affect. Simply shut down your system and reboot and the error will go away.

How do I rebuild my IPF Editor folder?

Included with the IPF Editor 2.x in the \IPFEDIT directory is a command file called "MAKEIPFE.CMD". Simply run this to recreate your IPF Editor folders. In addition your CONFIG.SYS will be updated as needed.

How do I Get Support for the IPF Editor?

You can get support by calling the PCS Support BBS at (360) 424-7292 (19200,8,n,1 - 24hrs a day, 7 days a week) or by sending a fax to (360) 424-3192 (Monday-Friday, 24 hrs a day, responses usually within 24 hrs).

How do I prevent the toolbox and panel list from moving with the main IPF Editor window?

If you do not want the IPF Editor Toolbox and Panel List to move with the main IPF Editor window add the "/IND" option to the command line (use the program object popup menu's "Settings" menu item and then enter "/IND" on the Optional Parameters field).

How do I disable the "flyover" toolbox descriptions?

Use the "Options, Preferences" notebook and turn to the "Toolbox" page.

What's the little "clock" signify in the Compiler Results window's title bar?

The clock indicates that the IPF Compiler is still working. Every time the IPF Compiler completes a step in compiling your document the IPF Editor receives notification of this and alters the clock to signal you that everything is still working properly.

Occasionally there may be delays of up to five to ten seconds while the IPF Compiler is really busy on a large document where the clock does not move. This is OK.

Why can't I type a colon or insert an IPF tag into a Panel title?

IPF does not support any IPF highlighting or similar tags in the text used for panel titles. In addition when you type panel titles any "&colon."s typed are converted to &.colon. automatically.

When you use the direct editing features of the Panel List to change a panel's title any colons typed will be converted when you save the new panel title by clicking outside the direct editing window-box.
