IPF Editor 2.x Voice Support
Module Questions and Answers
I have .SND files created using the IPF Editor 1.0x. Can I
still use them?
Yes. You
must, however, remove the original comment that ".SND files must be in the
DPATH" and make sure the ":acviewport." statement is the first statement in the
Panel Editing window. Then save the file and reload it and the IPF Editor 2.0
will properly handle the VSM .SND files.
Why doesn't the
target system's volume change to match the volume settings I selected?
Some older sound cards do not support volume adjustment. This is
a limitation of the hardware and cannot be overcome without purchasing a sound
card that does support software volume control. The easy way to tell is to use
the MMPM/2's volume control (in the Multimedia folder). If it works, volume can
be adjusted by the Voice Support Module.
Where should I
install the generated .SND files?
All .SND files must be placed
in the DPATH or in the current directory containing the INF file to be viewed.
The Voice Support Module always scans the current directory first, then searches
DPATH for your .SND files.
I receive an IPF Error that
"The IPFE_VSM.DLL cannot be found". What can I do?
This is an
indication that the runtime portion of the Voice Support Module is not in the
LIBPATH. Simply make sure that the LIBPATH either contains the exact path to the
IPFE_VSM.DLL or that the desktop object used to VIEW the INF file has the
working directory set to the directory containing both the .INF, .SND, and the
IPFE_VSM.DLL files.
Can I Play both MID and WAV files
simultaneously?
The answer is "Yes" and "No". Since each panel
can only contain a single voice command it can only play one sound at a time.
However, It is technically possible (but not recommended) to take a voice
command (viewed with the ACViewport push button on the "Options" page of the
Panel Settings Notebook) and copy it into the document's header so that it is
run as part of the "User Custom Communications Object Dll" whenever the document
is first loaded. You should be very experienced using both the VSM and the
Document Profile portions of the IPF Editor 2.0 before trying this. We do not
guarantee this will work on any or all systems (some systems are limited to a
single voice from the sound card).
We have had success with playing MIDI
files as background music for the entire document.
How do
I Remove a sound file from a panel?
To remove a sound file from
a panel use the Panel Settings Notebook. Then turn to the "Options" page. Press
the "Acviewport" push button. Use the "Dll Name" drop-down list and select the
"IPFE_VSM" DLL from the list (it probably is already selected). Then press the
"Delete" push button to remove the voice command. Press "Save" to permanently
remove the command from the panel. Any other panel using the same .SND file will
not be affected.
What files do I send with my document?
You will need to send the .WAV, .MID, .SND., and the
IPFE_VSM.DLL with your document.
