A brief comparison of Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander for OS/2 Warp vs. the pre-release Process Commander

Due to the number of questions arising regarding how Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander for OS/2 Warp compares against the unreleased (as of September 1, 1996) Process Commander PCS has created this page to try to answer your questions. Please bear in mind that the information, when directly mentioning something in Process Commander, is based on reports from our customers who have gathered this information, and is about an unreleased product, so the information about Process Commander may change considerably before it is released!

As of the date of this writing (September 1, 1996) Process Commander is not yet available as a generally available product so comparisons are difficult. PCS does not normally compare our products to products that have been announced but not released (we'd be fighting the vaporware battle - the competition can promise anything, then deliver less - just like the problem IBM had with Warp battling W95 last year).

There are some obvious differences and advantages to Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander based on the limited information about Process Commander available:

Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander has been available since December 1995. It has been used by thousands and is reliable and stable. It is at version 1.5 (available on August 1, 1996) and these updates have been both to improve existing features and to add new features at the request of our customers.

Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander costs less than half of Process Commander's announced GA retail price, and Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander even costs less than Process Commander's BETA version!

According to Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander customers the only feature found in Process Commander not available in Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander is the ability to remotely control PC's via a LAN. The biggest difference is that Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander has it now and the retail Process Commander isn't available yet!

We find this hard to believe - but it was reported to us by a customer (who apparently is evaluating both our product and the Process Commander beta) that the Process Commander beta is said to use up to 3 MB of RAM when running. The Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander uses no more than 300 K of RAM!

PCS does not charge for beta versions!

PCS provides free updates (or $10.00 for upgrades from version 1 to 2) to Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander! -- Process Commander's beta costs about $45.

PCS really listens to customers suggestions. Many of the features in our latest version have come directly from suggestions from Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander customers and OS/2 User's groups. Some of our customers have mentioned they didn't get good results when contacting Stardock Systems about problems in their products (but, of course, each person's experience is different, and we are sure many have had very positive experiences when contacting Stardock Systems).

PCS is working with IBM OS/2 personnel directly to ensure future compatibility.

PCS verifies that each new version of Warp (both Fixpacks and major revisions such as Warp 4.0 Merlin) work properly with Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander.

PCS has great technical support, as evidenced by the following quotes from satisfied PCS customers:

"You guys have the best technical support anywhere. Your support is better than anyone elses, and you are very responsive to your customer's needs. This keeps customers, trust me."

- Doug Hicken, Utah, Member Team OS/2 (doug@uwin.com)

"I just wanted to say thanks for your fast response and help in acknowledging and then fixing the problems in CAD Commander with the WipeOut screen saver."

- May 29, 1996 - Fernando Cassia, Argentina

PCS does not warrant that the information on Process Commander displayed on this page is accurate. This page is purely for a very general comparison of the released Ctrl-Alt-Del Commander for OS/2 Warp and the PRE-released Process Commander. In the event you find a disparity between what is written and what you know to be a fact in the released version of Process Commander we would like to know so we can have a fair comparison.
